The Happy Bunny a true 2.0 / long tail success story
The rabbit is a cute, simply drawn cartoon. There’s no plot. He (or she?) just says what’s on his mind: I have a dream, and in it something eats you, I hear all the other icky people calling you, and my favorite You go girl. and don’t come back. So the bunny isn’t so happy. It’s that juxtaposition of looking nice but being bad that makes it such a great mascot of the tech world.
The author is Jim Benton, who is a true Long Tail superstar. He crafts a half dozen book series and cartoon creations all with tons of merchandising for sale on his website. In fact some of his cartoon characters only exist in the form of merchandising. Jim even sells his original happy bunny art for $800 USD!
So what comes after a 2.0 / long tail success??? A mainstream, short tail success, of course. Happy Bunny products are now showing up at Walmart including a terrific “best of poster.
Full Disclosure: That poster hangs in my home office! Thanks Jenny, for the introduction!!
