Patent Payouts come to VoIP
The US courts awarded Verizon $58 million in damages against Vonage. The judge ruled that Vonage was infringing on three patents that mainly deal with connecting an internet based phone call to the public network. oops. This may have interesting consequences for the VoIP industry as we know it.
