The Jeep Door Handle Experience

jeephandle1.thumbnail.jpgIn Don Norman’s classic “The Psychology of Everyday Things”, he rants a lot about doors. Why should doors need instruction manuals – referring to “Push” & “Pull” signs. The design should ensure that anyone can open a door. No excuses. I’ve wondered for a long time why interior car door handles are so poorly designed? Many handles are skimpy little plastic levers that face away from the person. To open a car door you have to pull the lever towards you. If you’re the driver, you have to twist your left hand 180 degrees to grab the latch. Alternatively, you can reach over with your right hand. Everything about this scenario is BAD ergonomics.

Since my last car – the dreaded Ponti-hack expired a couple weeks ago, I’ve been driving a Jeep Liberty. Not only is the metal handle a terrific example of industrial design, it’s well designed so I can open the door with my left hand without the contortions…

I guess you can say that I now have a better handle on the situation.

How about the “hand or finger print monitoring door”. Once your hand or finger touches the Jeep Door Handles it will automatically open. Any experts or inventor think ideas about this?

Yeah.. That a great invention that experts will do. It is very much needed to have automatic door open once you’ve touch Jeep door handle most especially to those driver who often lost their car keys. I can’t wait to have that invention. That’s cool idea!
