Toolbar Hell: Move over to Bzzster

nav_bg.gifHow many toolbars can you install before your entire screen is toolbars?? There’s no shortage of them… search, Alexa, StumbleUpon…

Here’s Bzzster – it makes it “easy” to share links with your friends. No need for a toolbar!

    Hi,

Thanks for checking out Bzzster.com! I’m one of it’s creators.

I just wanted to make sure you knew that you don’t need to install a toolbar to use Bzzster, we actually don’t even have one.

Bzzster works via a bookmark(let), so no software to install, just a bookmark.

I like your site, keep up the good work.

    Cheers,
    David

    Hey David,

Sorry about that – I misunderstood the main page description. I look forward to installing it!

    cheers

    Hi David,

Thanks for the clarification. Yeah, no install required. Uh, duh Mitch!

Small register hiccup, but now I’m on.

Bzzster works pretty good. It’s pretty basic, but nice and clean. The pirate patch icon is pretty nifty :) I hope your service grows. Are you considering openID for it? Either way, it does the trick. Thanks for letting us try it out. We’ll be sure to monitor your progress with it.

For some reason the bookmarklet doesn’t work for me on Firefox 2.0.0.11 (Ubuntu Linux). Anybody else having this problem?

    Hi Alan,
You should try to address that question directly to bzzster. I see that you’ve also tried the techcrunch forums without much success yet, although someone is responding to your query there.
It gave me the chance to check out how Bzzster has changed and improved since last year. It’s still pretty basic, but there are some nice new features including the widgets and toolbar you speak of. It sort of makes this post by Mitch moot since there now is a toolbar for bzzster.
    good luck with it.

Jay Meattle has already been in touch. I have disabled all of my Firefox extensions and the bzzster works. Now to figure out which extension conflicts with it.

It is my adblocking extension that is interfering…
I tried Adblock 0.5.3.043 – bzzster quit working
I tried Adblock Plus 0.7.5.3 – bzzster quit working

Are there any Ad blocking extensions that work for you?

I use a Mac and I don’t have the bzzster toolbar. I hate toolbars.

UPDATE: I removed the Filterset.G Updater extension and removed all subscriptions in Adblock Plus, then subscribed to the EasyList (USA) list and NOW everything works.

I want to thank Jay Meattle for his proactive involvement in helping me fix this problem.

    Thanks!

Hi Jobe, Shareaholic (supports Bzzster + 21 other services) is not a toolbar, but a plug-in with a minimal browser foot print.

A segment of users didn’t like dealing with a bookmarklet, so an easy to install FF add-on was created. You can still simply just use the bookmarklet.

    Check Shareaholic out here: http://shareaholic.com

    Cheers,
    Jay
