Steve Jobs is floating in my hot tub…

iwet.pngWell… his iPod anyhow! H20 Audio has been waterproofing iPod for a couple years. Cool products – you can still control the interface and it comes with waterproof headphones. They’re in the VC news this week for raising $5million in an A round. What I find interesting about this company is they successfully mashed up two “passions” – iPod and water sports. Their home page talks as much of their products as the events they’re sponsoring (remote kitesurfing, surfing, waterskiing… and the “Totally Crustaceous Surf Tour”).

This is an excellent example of brilliant execution of a business plan for a product that sounds pretty dull on paper (waterproof mp3 plastic shell). Targetting a small but passsionate market niche is the beachhead. Once you have the beach set locked in, you can reel in the “less adventurous” crowd: bathtub floaters, hot tub lovers, even shower singers!

That certainly explains the Aqua interface!! I’m waiting for the MacBook shell… just imagine all those new mermaid blogs!
