Bok’ing Right: Ottawa / NY startup shines at DemoCamp

bokme.JPGThis Monday’s DemoCamp was inspiring – 6 demos = 6 outstanding performances. It was a perfect event to close the camp season for the summer.

One of the demos was Bok. I know what you’re thinking… “Bank of Oklahoma was at DemoCamp????” This is another Bok . It’s a mobile app that let’s users use sms to initiate a call. CallER pings CallEE. CallEE calls CallER. Why bother? Most cell plans have free incoming calls. But that’s not the true appeal of Bok. They integrate with a number of social net apps to create one click call buttons. They also want to develop the Bok brand to bolster their business case. I spoke with CEO Aydin Mirzaee about the marketing strategy. Refreshingly, to him brand development is as important as feature development. Although a bit provocative, the Bok identity speaks to their highly targetted segment: 15-25 yos. That is something we don’t see often enough with Ottawa companies!
