Hot Media Properties: The evolution of successful blogs
POF founder Markus Frind had a good post about how successful blogs don’t start making lots of money. They evolve into media companies who make lots of money. This perspective makes a lot sense. Take three successful blogs: TechDirt, TechCrunch, and TheAlarmClock. Crunch alone has 21 employees! They even acquired a company - InviteShare. These companies have become online media properties. They have also launched related ventures.
TheAlarmClock has launched AdBree - a Ning based social network for online marketers. TechDirt has launched The Insight Community, where companies can solicit solutions and advice from vetted experts from the blogoshere. Finally, TechCrunch has launched CrunchBase - an profile database of web 2.0 companies. These are all fun projects and worth checking out.
Here at SM, we’re still just a blog albeit a multi-writer one. We’ve also got a couple of ambitious projects cooking. For that we’re looking for a some dev help on a part time project basis. Contact us for more info. While we’re at it - an angel or two wouldn’t hurt!

You might want to fix that typo - it’s “crunchbase” not “cruchbase”. /:-)
Thanks for catching that and pointing it out.
