Patent Time: Apple invents “user interface design”
In this week’s installment of Goofy Patent Applications – Apple has filed for a patent entitled User Interface Design. Yep, the whole thing! Actually the innovation they describe is about the resolution of GUI objects. An object designed at a certain resolution doesn’t look as good if the user’s screen resolution isn’t the same. You can provide different versions of the object but that is a management nighmare. Apple is suggesting a means by which objects are rendered to any resolution in real time. Cool.
In Apple’s words… (caution – run on sentence!)
A method to display a graphical user interface object, comprising: obtaining a plurality of values associated with a graphical user interface object, each of the values associated with a display characteristic of a graphical user interface object; identifying a first one of the plurality of values as being associated with a first resolution of a first attribute of the graphical user interface object; identifying a second one of the plurality of values as being associated with a second resolution of the first attribute of the graphical user interface object; causing the graphical user interface object to be rendered by providing the plurality of values except the second value to a rendering engine through an application programming interface function.

It nicely fits the theme of dumbass Maczealots who think that Holy Steve Jobs invented the wheel and everything else since.
