TechDirt: the blog that pays for Micro-consulting

August 20th, 2007 by Mitch Brisebois

picture-91.pngA while back I wrote about TechDirt’s new Insight Community. It’s a neat concept where TD’s editors invite “expert” bloggers into a closed community where they can respond to queries from companies. You respond just as you would writing a typical post. The answers are private and are judged by the sponsoring company. Top rated insights are awarded cash prizes ranging from $75usd to $500usd.

After being”invited” into the community I was a bit leery about the scheme. Sounded good on “paper”, but does it work? I responded to three issues. I was rewarded $75 for Design a strategy for a mobile RSS reader, and $150 for What do you want from a mobile recommendation service. Then the cheque actually arrived in the mail – not surprisingly from the Silicon Valley Bank in Santa Clara!

The insight community is an interesting experiment in “Micro consulting”… Imagine integrating this service to LinkedIn for a wider scope of insight…
