The ABXY Society: Gamey and alphabetically challenged
Ever wonder why most video game controllers have A and B buttons and X and Y ones? Why not A, B, C, and D? According to the history of ABXY (available at ABXY.org – who knew?) The labelling was first created by Nintendo for the original NES. Speculation has it that naming the extra buttons X and Y would future-proof the design, as well as offer more flexibility in button placement. Indeed a “A B F D E C” controller would be confusing!
Oddly enough the ABXY Society is looking for donations? Why? Are they planning to wage war against the 1234 Society??
