Gnomicide Strikes Travelocity

gnomeluv.jpgIn the journey towards successul web-based businesses, new corporate icons have been created. One of my favourites is Travelocity’s Roaming Gnome – especially since it was inspired by the 2001 french film Amelie. In the movie, the gnome is stolen by a girl from her father’s yard. In 2004, Travelocity started picturing the “Santa Claus-ish” gnome visiting exotic locales.

Today, news from Chicago’s NorthernWestern University report that the Travelocity Gnome was stolen from a campus recruiting event. Gasp. The horror, the horror!
