You say you want a resolution…

November 23rd, 2007 by Mitch Brisebois

You’re a web designer… so where do you mark your territory when it comes to resolution. An Irish startup called FoldSpy has designed a tool to capture data from thousands of browsers and over 2 million page views to assess screen resolution of users. It’s like an aggregate of resolution data captured by Google Analytics. FoldSpy also offer a tool that uses that data to show you a window on your website that most people are seeing. That can help you plan where to place advertising. From their data – here’s the distribution of height and width resolutions. reshigh.jpgreswide.jpg

Don’t completely rely on this for design though – more people are using mobile devices, cool ASUS notebooks, or even Nintendo DSs for browsing.

It looks like around 3% of all websites are designed for 1500+px and less than 20% of websites are designed for under 800px. I’m not sure if that is right, it seems like there are more 800px designs than 1000px designs.
