The Enticing Virus Made Me Do It!
Everyone wants to be viral – not from a biological or pathological perspective (not very enticing) – but a web perspective.
A few local startups have had great success at creating enticing applications. We’ve talked before about iotum’s Free Conference Calling on Facebook. The really interesting twist from iotum: it’s not just about calling, it’s about scheduling themed discussions that anyone can sign up for. Very Enticing Virus.
Next up, is a fast-rising travel blog site site TravelPod. The founders have presented at previous Ottawa DemoCamps – their user-generated blogs have had 33,000 posts last week alone from 152 different countries. To spread the word for TravelPod, they recently created The Traveler IQ Challenge. It works as a standalone that you can even paste into your site (very enticing) OR if you want global score rankings, play the Facebook edition (very enticing). The game is about locating on a world map certain locations from clues given. Time is a factor and the questions get harder. It’s hard to describe how addictive the game is – especially if you’ve travelled a lot / or have a keen sense of geography. Just try it. Very Enticing Virus (Am I repeating myself?).
If you want to hear “The Making of TravelerIQ” story, the TravelPod team will be sharing it at the upcoming DemoCamp Ottawa7.
ok… not so enticing… I placed Denmark in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea… oops. Sorry Danes!
