Navigation part 1: Show where the action is

northkoreandarkness.jpgThe purpose of a good navigation system for software and web sites, is to get the user to where they want to be quickly. For e-commerce, the ultimate goal (AKA conversion) is to get them to the shopping cart and the payment page. So where are the hotspots on your site? Use a heatmap to find out. Google analytics is a great start!

In the real world, night-time satellite images also show where the action is… This is a night view of Korea. North Korea is on top (Ruled by Supreme Leader Kim Jong II.) South Korea is conveniently located to the south (Ruled by Democracy.) The only lights shining in KJ’s fiefdom is the capital, Pyonyang. By contrast, Seoul, the southern capital is a vibrant city of 23 million people. South Korea’s economy has been estimated as about 15 times that of the North 8 years ago. But it’s not all about money, it’s quality of life. Most North Koreans don’t get electricity bills. They also have a better place for astronomy. If only they could afford a telescope.
