Man’s Symbiotic Species Necessary for Survival

Being humans, it’s sometimes possible for us to forget how much we depend on a number of other species. We often think in terms of resources, water, air, food. In reality, food is other species. Species which we must protect.

via Wikipedia:

The term symbiosis commonly describes close and often long-term interactions between different biological species. The term was first used in 1879 by the German mycologist, Heinrich Anton de Bary, who defined it as: “the living together of unlike organisms

So, which species do you think are critical to our very survival as a species? My first guess would have been something like the Chicken. It’s hard to imagine life without chicken. I suppose, a species like rice or corn are even more important to us. What species do you feel are necessary for our survival?

Aren’t there certain bacteria we can’t live without? Yeah, I vote for yogurt and stomach bacteria.

Shouldn’t the answer to this be as many species as possible? and what happened to your chat widget?

FY, yes indeed that would make sense to me, the more variety, the more species, the better our chances of continued survival. But what if you had to pick only the minimum number necessary for our survival? How many species would that be and which ones should we choose?

Oh, yeah, I’m not sure anyone was actually using it, plus it seemed to slow the page load time for our site. So bye bye chat.
