St-Patrick’s Day Patents: Reinventing the drunkard’s hat
John Geddie, a Michigan inventor, was granted a patent for the “Portable Bar” on July 21st, 1987. This odd contraption specifies a “plurality of valves and containers” to mix up a bunch of different drinks. Trouble is, you’d need to be a NASA astronaut to know how to operate this thing… Come to think of it, maybe this is NASA technology!
Abstract
A portable mix bar comprising a hard hat having a plurality of drink containers and a pair of mixing chambers for mixing drinks mounted thereon wherein the flow of drinks to and from the mixing chambers is controlled by a plurality of valves. Also provided is a plurality of tubes for carrying drinks from the drink containers to the valves and mixing chambers and between valves and mixing chambers and from the mixing chambers to the mouth of a user.
This doesn’t exactly promise good usability… So we prefer this simplified model below!

Wow The Keg-hat is heavy artillery!
I think I may have caught a glimpse of “the keg hat” on the last shuttle mission. They use this to keep the astronauts hydrated.
