The Tyranny of Cheap Nuts
I keep having to teach myself this lesson: sometimes choosing the discount product, you get less than what you pay for.
Here’s my can of “Star Snacks” cashews I bought on sale at Loeb’s supermarket… Notice the plump, golden cashews pictured on the outside… notice the evil-looking, shriveled, partly burnt, halloweenish cashews in the can. In fact the can wasn’t even full!
The label claims it’s USA-made, but the nuts are from “USA AND/OR ARGENTINA AND/OR MEXICO.” I can’t blame the distributor for not stating where they came from – I certainly wouldn’t own up to creating these failed nuts!
Out of the 3 possible countries of origin, none are in the top 10 cashew producing countries (which is led by Vietnam, India, and those nutty Brazilians.) So, maybe, the USA AND/OR ARGENTINA AND/OR MEXICO are still practicing growing them.
Star Snacks – a bad nut experience!.

I couldn’t agree with you more. I purchased a jar of Star Snacks Honey Roasted Peanuts at Dollar General (I really should have known better) and after eating one handful threw them out. Not only tasting stale they also had no sweetness to them at all. As best as I can read the date code it shows 11/29/09 so they shouldn’t taste that bad. Chalk this one up to experience!
The today’s News at TV 21 Fresno, “Last year California Almonds Growers made MORE THAN 6 THOUSAND MILLION Dollar profit. Also, California Grape Growers made MORE THAN 5 THOUSAND MILLION Dollar profit. Because they sell their trash (second & third class product so expensive to the regular consumers. Inflation, Inflation, and no more than inflation. Farmers, and Basic Products Industry Owners, would be next after Real Estate, Banks, Automakers, Etc. until everything is priced right. So, low and median income consumers can buy all kind of products in USA.
