Possibly, the worst Microsoft product. Ever!

microsoftsongsmithA few weeks ago, MS unleashed Songsmith. You can buy it for 29 bucks.

It’s billed as a “reverse karaoke” tool. The end result is a bunch of YouTube videos featuring classic songs with the vocals remaining but the band replaced with weird cross-genre elevator-music. It’s too bizarre to explain.

Here’s a sample. The Police’s Roxanne. All that remains is Sting’s vocals. The band has been replaced by a Cuban Mariachi soundtrack. ugh. What IS exactly the point of this thing??? Is this the type of “altered musak” that Zune owners listen to?

Is this Microsoft’s response to the Apple’s Garage Band?
