Marketing Fail: Flogging Magazines in the Internet Age

In the latest issue of CIO Magazine there’s a full page ad from MagazinesCanada – a professional organization supposedly trying to save Canada’s dead-tree publishing industry. You’d think these folks would be savvy enough to create some engaging marketing… Instead – here’s a woman reading a bland looking magazine featuring a pictorial of her dead computer. Rivetting. Makes me want to rush out and subscribe!!

If MagazinesCanada can’t find any good reason to buy magazines, why should we care? Obviously, the marketing team is out of touch with modern publishing. Maybe they should check out Coilhouse and Display Canadian Design and find some inspiration.
